The Biggest Difference Is the Architecture
QQQI starts from Nasdaq-100 constituent exposure and overlays an actively managed NDX call strategy. JEPQ instead builds an actively selected U.S. large-cap growth portfolio using J.P. Morgan’s research process and then adds an options overlay.
Income Metrics Are Not Directly Comparable
QQQI reports a distribution rate, while JEPQ’s fact sheet reports a 30-day SEC yield and rolling dividend yield. Those measures answer different questions, so they should not be treated as equivalent measures of expected return.
Upside Trade-Off
Both strategies exchange some potential upside for options premium. The exact amount of upside retained depends on portfolio construction, strike selection, option implementation and market conditions.
Risk
Both remain exposed to large-cap growth and Nasdaq-related market risk. High monthly distributions do not protect principal, and neither fund should be evaluated using distribution rate alone.
